Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has become an important approach in education to address sustainability challenges. However, junior high school students’ sustainability literacy remains limited, particularly in connecting environmental issues with local contexts and sustainable practices. This study aims to develop and examine the preliminary effectiveness of an interactive E-Module based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), integrated with the local potential of Bali and a STEAM approach, on Ecosystem topics to enhance students’ sustainability literacy. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using a modified Thiagarajan model consisting of three stages: Define, Design, and Develop, due to the focus on product feasibility and limited-scale implementation. The findings showed that the interactive e-module met the criteria of feasibility and practicality based on construct, content, and media expert validation results. Practicality testing also indicated that the e-module could be implemented effectively in classroom learning. Furthermore, a limited effectiveness test using a pre-test/post-test control group design demonstrated that students in the experimental group achieved higher post-test sustainability literacy scores than those in the control group, indicating positive improvement after implementation. In conclusion, the interactive e-module is feasible and practical for classroom use and shows potential to improve junior high school students’ sustainability literacy, although wider-scale implementation is required to further confirm its effectiveness.
